I was born and raised in Kearny and the Argyle has been open and serving up delicious Fish and Chips for decades. I have had wonderful times there, private parties as well as cozy dates with my boyfriend/husband. Never ever had a complaint until the past few years. We started to notice that the fish was different, definitely a major step down in quality and taste. Come to find out that the cod was being replaced with a far inferior type of fish. Of course we were never told. Upon learning this we started specifically asking for cod. Last time we went we asked for cod(several times). We repeatedly asked and was assured we would be served cod. But we weren't. It was the tasteless, mushy substitute snuck onto our plates. I guess they thought they could put it over on us. They didn't know we had been eating there over the course of 40 years. Bait and switch. I didn't like it when I first found out. And I certainly cannot excuse a bare faced lie. I really don't think I'll be going back. A dish that I love. A treat saved for once or twice a year. And they can't resist slipping in the inferior product. You can keep it.
Food was terrible, lobster over cooked, meat pie was decent, except the crust was under done fork wasn't clean. It is 2 stars as it's a BYOB, but they broke the cork on our wine bottle and then had to pry it out, which left pieces floating in our wine.
Delicious & Authentic! A Quaint, humble place for all types of Scottish (& more) fare. In addition to a full menu they also have some takeaway favorites like meats pies & blood pudding. Friendly staff and a nice location with ample street parking. Don't forget the malt vinegar & HP Sauce!
Excellent Scottish food with friendly service. Best fish & chips anywhere!
Pretty good meat pie for lunch and the fries and Cole slaw are decent too
